Hematite Lake in Land Between The Lakes is one of the most popular hiking and picnicking areas in the National Recreation Area.
This small lake, impounded well before the creation of LBL or Lake Barkley, is spring-fed which creates a beautiful experience for paddlers who want to venture out.
The Hematite Lake dam also has stepping stones to traverse the spillway. Many times water is spilling over, creating a great atmosphere for hikers.
A two-mile trail surrounds the lake, which includes a series of boardwalks and bridges over the creeks that feed the lake.
Picnic tables are located at the lake. A family could pack a lunch and spend the afternoon at Hematite Lake!
