OFF-ROADING IN LBL

Turkey Bay OHV Area

The Turkey Bay OHV Area is a designated off-highway vehicle riding area located within Land Between the Lakes, covering approximately 2,500 acres between Kentucky Lake, Woodlands Trace, and US 68/KY 80. The area includes nearly 100 miles of marked trails designed for a wide range of riding abilities and vehicle types. ATVs, OHVs, dirt bikes, Jeeps, and other off-road vehicles are all permitted on the trail system.

Trails are divided into three categories to help riders choose appropriate routes. Primary trails are wider, maintained roads suited for beginners. Secondary trails are narrower and more challenging, often connecting primary routes. Tertiary trails are the most technical and narrow, intended for experienced riders. Together, the trail network allows riders to plan short rides, full-day outings, or multi-day visits while staying within a designated and managed riding area.

What to Expect

Riders visiting Turkey Bay should expect a structured OHV area with permits, rules, and safety requirements in place. All riders must sign a liability waiver and purchase either a short-term or annual permit before riding. Permits are available at the Turkey Bay Gatehouse or the Golden Pond Visitor Center during operating hours. Trail access is open from sunrise to sunset, and protective gear, including helmets, is required.

Primitive camping is available within the designated Turkey Bay camping area and includes access to chemical toilets, drinking water, and 24-hour generator zones. Camping registration is self-service at the on-site kiosk, and camping is not allowed outside the designated area. A youth-friendly Turkey Trot area is also available for younger riders. Because trails may close due to weather, visitors are encouraged to check conditions before hauling equipment to the area.
