Taking a nice drive through Land Between The Lakes is something everyone can enjoy. There are several great spots to travel and experience nature by car when visiting Land Between The Lakes.
Woodlands Trace
This 43-mile paved highway runs north-south through the middle of Land Between The Lakes, from Grand Rivers, Kentucky to Dover, Tennessee. The road (also known as KY 453 and TN 49) is designated a National Scenic Byway. Access to major portions of Land Between The Lakes happens from Woodlands Trace.
Elk & Bison Prairie
For just $5 per car, you can enter the gated Elk & Bison Prairie. Drive through this beautiful area solely designated for elk and bison. You get get up close and personal with the large animals, especially the bison, from the comforts of your car (careful though, don't get out and provoke them). Sometimes these enormous animals hang out in the middle of the road, so make sure you watch where you are going and obey the speed limit.
Kentucky Lake Scenic Drive
This short one-way drive located south of Grand Rivers and the canal offers beautiful views of Kentucky Lake. It's a great place to experience fall foliage.
Energy Lake Road
From near the US 68/KY 80 Lake Barkley bridge up to Woodlands Nature Station, this paved road offers great views of the dense forests of eastern Land Between The Lakes. You can also drive across Energy Dam and on up to the area around the Nature Station, where there are plenty of things to see and do. It's a great drive for those looking for something a little more adventurous.
The Backroads of Land Between The Lakes
We love the backroads of LBL! There are hundreds of miles of gravel roads that are fun to experience. Some of these roads can be impassable at times, so make sure your vehicle can handle it.
