WORTH THE DETOUR
Silo Overlook in Land Between The Lakes
Silo Overlook is one of those places you don’t stumble onto by accident. Tucked into the northwest corner of Land Between the Lakes, it feels more like a discovery than a destination. Long before it was forgotten, this spot drew visitors who climbed into a towering concrete grain silo to look out over Lake Barkley. Today, the silo still stands, weathered and silent, marking a time when roadside curiosity was part of the experience.
Access begins on Mulberry Flat Road, where visitors park at the gate and continue on foot down the closed pavement. The walk is short, quiet, and a little eerie in the best way. What remains at the site is no longer safe to climb. The wooden ramp that once led into the silo has deteriorated, leaving behind fragments of boards and hardware that hint at how the overlook once worked.

The structure itself is off limits, but standing beside it offers a strong sense of place and history.
The shoreline nearby opens into calm coves, and scattered remnants of old equipment sit half hidden along the water’s edge. There are no signs pointing you here, no interpretive panels, and no crowds. That sense of isolation is part of the appeal.
This area is monitored, and visitors are expected to respect the site. Leave everything as you find it, pack out what you bring in, and help protect this piece of LBL’s past so it remains worth the detour for the next curious explorer.
